Nominal cover

Nominal cover is defined as the concrete cover for durability which is 50mm as maximum as defined in BS 8110 and AASHTO regardless of the construction cover if it is over 50mm.

So, when it comes to subtitue into the crack width calculations, acr is counted from the end of the nominal cover.

I found people mixing between the minimum cover and nominal cover, this is embaressing.

For those conservative engineers, requesting more nominal cover and more steel accordingly, I wish to tell them read the code carefully because more steel will need more splice length and will enter an endless loop and non economic solution that has no use!
